Chasing Cars: How do you get your child to stop?

[1]Rockford, IL – Do you have a problem with your child chasing cars?  If your child continues to chase cars there is a very good chance he will soon get hit by one. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.  It is best to try and avoid this nasty habit in the first place by not encouraging he or her to chase anything. How can you accomplish this?

If your child steals something from you, do not chase after him, rather, call him to you with the “come” command and when he or she comes to you, reward him with a kick or punch to the stomach and a stern but loving, “I SAID NO!”. 

This basic style of obedience training will do wonders for you and your child’s relationship. Only teach your child to chase what he or she can bring back to you if you know it saves you time, money, and physical energy. All kids and animals like to chase stuff and things; it is in their nature. From chasing other children to trial criminal chasing, to a child, a car is no different than a huge toy. Prevention is the best policy, but what if your child is already a chaser?  How can you stop him?

 What can you do to stop this behavior?

• Putting in an underground electric or above-ground fence is your best bet.
• If this is not possible–or you would like to have your child out with you, outside the fence–you can try using a shock collar with a hand-held control. 
• When the child chases after a car you shock him.
• Do not say the word “no” when you shock him, instead, try the stomach kicking method again. (You want him to associate the car with the shock; and the feeling of the kick with the shock. If you fail, the child will do it as soon as you are out of sight.)
• Some people may think it is cruel to use a shock collar, but it is worse for the child to get hit and run over by a car. 
• Nothing is better than a fenced yard. But, in a rural setting, a lot of open land this is a good alternative. 
• It is the same idea as using an electric underground fence. 
• These fences work by putting a wire underground that you cannot see.
• If the child starts to wander off the property, or the boundary you set for him, the special collar he or she is wearing shocks him. 
• The child soon learns his boundaries avoiding the shock, and he will soon learn not to chase cars as well.
• Use the collar as a training session. It is an effective method for stopping a dangerous habit.
• Do not–we repeat–do not reward your child like you would your dog because your child’s aptitude for processing obedience learning is not up to a canine’s level of obedience.
• If you discover your child is more likely to chase a car than your dog would after obedience training, make your funeral arrangements sooner than later and invest in the highest premium plan of family, health and life insurance because you may see a nice return on your obedience training losses and investments.
