Rockford Chick-Fil-A Song Airs on Colbert Report

Rockford Chick-Fil-A Song Airs on Colbert Report

Rockford, IL – Willard Hunter’s beautiful tribute song to Rockford, midwest weather and chicken sandwiches made its debut on Comedy Central’s Colbert Report this week. RKFDnews debuted the Nashville singer-songwriter’s tribute to us last week, but we feel the community might be a little confused by the big words and Grammy Award winning worthy vocals.  As usual, we made the rest of the world laugh again!  Take another listen.

God Bless The Chick-Fil-A Song About Rockford Debuts on Colbert ReportHunter told us by phone, “I knew those big city cats  would understand me.  I was hoping the Rockford would embrace my song as their own but maybe they don’t understand what “hypothermia” means. Or maybe they don’t like chicken?  Such a shame.  Thank you to RKFDnews for sharing me with their village, and thank you to Mr. Colbert for sharing me with the rest of the world.  God bless.”

What’s the difference from people staying in the cold, waiting for this place to open and people waiting in the cold on black Friday?

I don’t think Colbert aired it. My friends and I in Rockford were so excited, but can’t find the episode! We even tried to match what Colbert was wearing in the picture on this article to an episode… but can’t find the clip. Help?

Lighten up everybody! It was great singing and the fact that he took the time to create words to recognize this is awesome! I love that Colbert picked it up and gave it some national recognition also. Just appreciate it for what it’s worth and stop being so critical!! I absolutely love it!!!!

A lot of those goofballs out there in the freezing temps weren’t all from Rockford! Some were from Chicago area, and even from Iowa and Missouri. I personally find it scary that people are so desperate for free food, they are willing to risk their health to get a “chicken” sandwich. If they were homeless, it would make much more sense! Said to see the USA in this state.

Well I’m from Rockford and I realized that after living there for so long you get used to the weather after a while. It doesn’t really affect what you do after a while.

You’re right, whatever comes after stupid is where far from stupid resides–Rockford, IL! Willard says, “Lighten up, lady, and have some chicken. If you’re not proud to be a Rockfordian, I’ll sing a prayer for you. Peace, love, chicken and God, Willard.”

We just get it a lot. I grew up here, and the place has gone down the tubes (spent 17 years in TX, and for medical reasons am limited and unable to go back). But family is here- so I stay. It’s sad to see the schools so different… sad to see this city not considered worthy of places like Whole Foods (demographic is too blue collar for them to consider putting a store here).

The song was nice. 🙂 Just thought it got a bit snarky implying that the words were too big for us to understand.

        Have a good week 🙂

Thank you for your time and thoughts. We do appreciate all types of feedback here, and you touched on something that our staff discusses much about: Smarminess vs. Snarkiness. We prefer the latter. The region prefers smarmy instead of snarky, and this is why we suggest that if anyone is bothered by what we do, feel free to visit OurCityOurStory.com.We also touched on local snark and smarm in this article:

            http://rkfdnews.com/?s=smarm

Smarminess is what the Rockford community is used to being fed in abundance by its leaders from all sectors; government, business and community-positivity pretenders. It clearly explains why the conditions of life, and abilities to sustain a middle class living for most people while wanting to have opportunities for a future here that hasn’t existed in over 4 decades, are so consistently poor. We want to believe people are tired of being lied to, but we can’t confirm that. It seems like Rockford community is hung up on its own pride, positivity, and inabilities to face facts with logical actions. Instead, let’s start a transformational committee! Another one, and another one. Let’s make more art! None of these actions have made jobs in the last 40 years. Complete ignorance by most of our community’s nepotistic, unqualified, corrupt, inept, smarmy leaders with one interest–themselves. Screw the middle class, it doesn’t exist. What do we have left? Our anger–which is good if you use it right–and laughter. That’s all you have. If you want to feel safe, have no opinion, and don’t care because you feel the grass is never greener elsewhere–enjoy yourselves!

You can’t change facts with snark, but you also can’t lead a community out of economic, demographic, physical and emotional depression with smarminess. You can try to make people laugh and get angry, maybe think a bit outside their shell, with snarkiness. Smarminess is bad, it uses positivity as a weapon to fool you and the community.

Very good points. I wish I was physically able to leave. I’m trying to make the best of it at this point (which isn’t easy). Sometimes that’s all there is to hang on to- not to negate what is- but to live a somewhat tolerable life in spite of it. Bitter never helps. Just says more about the one spewing it.

any one that would stay out there like that are fools. and it is stupid. if that is demeaning to you, so be it. they are a discriminating company that really does not want gays in their establishment.

We were there, as my sons both work there. We stopped in late and brought soup to some friends of ours who where there. Chick fil A actually fed them as well, 3 meals and a snack while they waited and when it got too cold they let them inside for the night.
