I found this on Craigslist and changed a few things it was funny to me …
ROCKFORD—-
I have been wanting to reach out for some time now and I have to say I still feel awful about this.
I just wanted to let someone know, if they even see this:
In the late winter of 1986 or early 1987, I ran over a small chicken and I don’t know if it died or if it were OK. I was in a bad relationship with a janitor and he was living in a rental on Harlem Rd. and it was a Saturday a.m. and we were going somewhere and I was driving. we were on Huffman Blvd. I am pretty sure and there was a lot of snow and the road was icy. Some hot rod was on my tail so I didn’t want to step on my brakes and a young teenage boy, maybe 14, heavy set, came running toward the street and his chicken that looked like a small peacock was ahead of him, NO leash, but the chicken ran into the street and I struck him. I kept going and didn’t stop. I don’t know why I didn’t stop other than my excuse that the road was icy and didn’t want the car behind me to rear-end me, but I could have traveled till I got away from the car riding my bumper and stopped and turned around and went back. I didn’t want to deal with it and I know “sorry” doesn’t help, esp. after all this time. All I can say is there was no excuse for my not stopping and checking. I HOPE that I just stunned the poor chicken and he was in fact OK but all in all I just shouldn’t have been there because I shouldn’t have been with that guy. It wasn’t any fault of his, ie he didn’t instruct me NOT to stop or to go back and check… he was a loser and an abuser and all day snoozer and I just shouldn’t have been there. So I wouldn’t have been in that place at that time and hit that poor defenseless chicken.
if that fowl did in fact[1] survive I am sure he is long gone by now, but either way I AM sorry…
