Tornado Destroys 3 School Buildings
ROCKFORD- At least a dozen houses and three school buildings were destroyed by a tornado that ripped through the Route 39, earlier tonight.The National Weather Service is now reporting that five tornadoes touched down in Illinois during a storm that dumped heavy rain as it swept across the state.
A weather service damage survey confirmed modest tornadoes landed early friday evening near Earlville, about 80 miles southwest of Chicago
The County Unit Northern Tactical Squadron, located in the second district of Paw Paw, said in a report that the tornado that struck also flattened more than two hectares of corn planted on hilly areas.
The occupants of the damaged houses had been evacuated to nearby houses of their relatives.
The local goverment unit has extended initial relief assistance to the affected families.
