Pedestrian Roundabouts planned for city center.

ROCKFORD —
More change is coming to downtown, where retail development sparks projections of more commerce, more residents, more traffic.
The city will build three roundabouts and a pedestrian tunnel including bike lanes near the intersection of State street Screen Shot 2015-07-15 at 4.42.58 PMand Main streets, with permits granted from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Winnebago County Road Commission.
Roy Sneider and Sons will be developing the spaces above Kryptonite into loft apartments and a new indoor vegetable community growing facility.
The construction will include two pedestrian roundabouts — one at the intersection of Main and State and another a half-mile west of the intersection. A third will be placed about-mile south of the intersection on West State and Cherry St. . A pedestrian tunnel between the roundabouts will connect the new development with the new Rockford Resort & Spa that will be in the former Times Theater.
Storm sewer, street lighting, landscaping, signing and pavement markings are also included in the project.
Work is scheduled to begin on on Oct 14 2015 and finish May 2030 just in time for the transformation!
An informational open house is scheduled for Thursday August 6th from 4 to 12 p.m. at Marys Place 602 North Madison..
You will know more when you think less.
