Rockford Scanner Defeated by Totalitarianism, Fascism, Socialism, and a touch of Communism
Rockford, IL – We will miss you for every smile and laugh you gave our staff around the clock. Rest in peace or until you come back with major changes made to accomodate our city’s leaders, RockfordScanner. The very popular facebook page founded by local scanner and airplane enthusiast, Ricky Traeger, was forced to take down their scanner page today by Rockford’s Dream Police Chief, Tchad Theoperson.
You know times are tough when your Chief of the Dream Police and whoever is making more nonsense happen down at City Hall needs the popular facebook page that reports local crime on the minute around the clock to 40,000 plus people in our community is taken down. Jesus Christ, Rockford, go on and hang yourselves on a cross while you can because a SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE operated by an airplane and scanner hobbyist (that we’d like to call a staff hero) with his good-hearted friends and family were defeated by totalitarianism, fascism, socialism and a touch of communism today.
A fucking pathetic use of time on our city’s leaders parts to shut down a poor, violent community’s access to an internet operation that wanted to deliver information concerning the community in a free country–supposedly (while we laugh and ponder NSA, Patriot Act, Verizon, Snowden). RS was rooted in alerting the community what our tax-paid leaders won’t and have no time or employees and funds to do such with. These people at RockfordScanner did it for the love of the community without tax-payer dollars going to them, for free– The Rockford Way! You’d think that’d be championed.
God forbid the public knows about crimes being performed in their neighborhoods before the 1% of our community’s superiors know, while they sleep in their nice homes and never have to worry about what it’s like to be unemployed, lose a house, worry for your family’s health and security in a city that’s disintegrating like fire to water. What is wrong with you, Rockford? Why do you take it? Why do you bend over and continue to take it from your superiors and overweight neighbors? Aren’t you tired or at least fat on your own pride from being tired?
Don’t worry about little crimes though, a stolen hood still means you have to call back days later to have the dispatch lady begrudgingly assign a cop to write up a report that you need for your insurance company in the dead of winter. Ah, the awful truth lingers the lightless streets of Rockford, IL, at night. What a naughty city, top to bottom.

I am going to start a website, I would ask everyone to donate to it. I will report Rockford Scanner news to everyone, but first I want 100,000 dollars to do this, otherwise ill have to show a bunch of fancy pictures of myself, do another swimming suit contest to the public where I pick the winner for free magic water tickets.
I also don’t want anyone elses opinion but my own on the site, you know the freedom of speech site that you are refused to comment on? So that’s that.
I often wondered how long it would take before something like this happened.

I am a property tax paying home owner. Where does this “city” think that Rockford Scanner’s website on Facebook would be a downfall. Actually, it was one of my favorite sites on Facebook. People would be able to see if there was an accident to avoid the area involved, any crimes that may occur in there neighborhood, and may other interesting stories This site was better than the Rockford Register Star, the local news or any other sites to get local news. The city leaders and police department made a huge mistake when they made the admistrator take the site down. I am getting to dislike the way this cities government is doing things to help Rockford. Shame on the city. I don’t have a police scanner, so this was also a site I could go to and listen to the scanner which was very enjoyable.
It was nice knowing what street not to drive down because shots were fired 5 minutes ago. Rockford Scanner shouldn’t bow down to Police pressure. 2nd ammendment is getting enough attacks, we don’t need to worry about defending the 1st too.
As far as RKFDNEWS.com goes, never heard of you before today. Even though this article deals with free speech, and you have a right to say what you want, you sound pretty ignorant including blasphemy in the article.
Are they going to shut down Rrstar for posting inaccurate stories? The news every time they can’t reach anyone for comment? One could argue that being an unconfirmed story.

It’s stupid that this happened to a page that was only trying to better a community. I’m glad I moved out.

Thats been a close race to the bottom for a while now.
Some above are stating the loss of credibility when you bring politics into this. I simply don’t agree and believe it has everything to do with politics. The Mayor will have a better chance of getting re-elected if we are kept in the dark and our only source of local news is what he wants us to see on the controlled local channels & newspaper. Epperson is tied to the Mayor’s hip. I have appreciated all RS has done and am sad to see them succumb to the politics that are Rockford.
What I would like to see is real reporting of the news. RS was great on what was happening as far as arrests but what about what happens after the arrest. How many arrests are often dropped or lowered since the cops got a little zealous with tacking on charges as scare tactic then the judge drops them if the person has no priors. What about the bogus rip off cash machine you have to use to bail out folks. Cops love to give resisting arrests charges just to get somebody downtown, get the bail cash which you pay more since the machine is a rip off. These people risk losing jobs, have to give up time from work, pay fines and lawyer fees just to have charges dropped. It is a tragedy of our justice system. the truly guilty often get slaps on the wrist but to get the money to house the guilty, they need to arrest the innocent. I wish somebody would report on court cases even if boring. The sensationalism of the initial report of an arrest is far more interesting. But if most folks really paid attention to what your hard earned tax dollars are going to is a corrupt and ineffective police force. At least the Sheriff is finally retiring but I am sure another equally corrupt person will more than likely take his place. Our home is pretty worthless and can’t afford to move and lose money but someday I too plan on leaving a beautiful city because of the corrupt politicians and crime. I have been a victim of crime more than I wish in our city and all of It was after 1985 but I have lived here since 1959. I have witnessed poor police work most of my life in this city but I will say there is a handful of really good cops but the most of them think they are god. At least they act that way.
I’ve met a few nice officers but the rest are totally nasty and assume too much authority. It’s a nightmare to have to call them, like being a victim twice. They treat a person like they’re the one who caused the problem, just by calling for them!! The so-called neighborhood liaison officers are the worst! Talk about hairline trigger tempers! They’re the first line of intimidation and of no help at all. The minute a patrol officer tells you he’s sending your problem to them, don’t bother because you’ll be treated like dirt and it will be a horrible experience.
All I have to say is the truth hurts, the town is going down hill and the leaders in this town don’t want you to see the bad news only the good. Instead of knowing when bad things happen areas to avoid to stay safe. That is how they have run the media in this city all along. Sad RIP Rockford Scanner.
Growing up in Rockford in the 80’s and early 90’s, it was a different world then. Now I live in small town Wisconsin, and i can’t tell you the last time I locked my doors! Most of my family still lives in dumpsville, and its frightening to see the level of crime and stupidity on behalf of the city leaders and supposed protectors. Rockford scanner kept a few safe in a community that is down right dangerous….thanks Rockford police, keep up the half ass, selfish work.

Rockford Scanner posted a feed about the 8year old little boy and said listen to it!!! Rockford scanner posted pictures of dead people. Then when got called out on it deleted it. Being in a terrible accident then having your accident posted on a media site is not a good thing to many people. If you had a loved one that died and someone posted pictures of it. Would you just sit back and watch it happen. Also the police probably got tired of Rockford scanner staff coming in and taking pictures is marked off areas. They have no respect at all!!!!
I watch the tv news and they have video of accident scenes all the time. Are you planning on asking the news media to not report that? how is rockford scanner any different?
Sounds like you would like to live in a communist/socialist country! Freedom of speech. My son was in an accident and pictures were posted on RS. I actually talked to them about getting copies for a possible lawsuit and they said no problem. I am tired of the politicians running the media and think them shutting down Rs is preposterous and believe RS should continue because I don;t know how “Rockford” can legally make you shut down!

There are many RINOs, Republicans In Name Only and here we witness a perfect example in our police chief. I too question the legality of this. This city government takes from people but gives very little in return. The wrong people are in charge but citizens are equally to blame as voter turnout was only 20% or something like that.
A real Republican believes that the Constitution gives us the right to freedom of speech.
It’s funny you mention RINO’s and the wrong people in charge in the same paragraph. This town is a Republican haven, which is why it is in the condition it is in today. REpublicans have been in key positions in this town for years, because we do vote in the 20% range. Besides our Mayor, who is a Independent overwhelmingly elected by Republicans in the last election, most of our most powerful elected official are republicans. Our county board chairman and most board members, most aldermans, and even most of our community college trustees are Republican which is why this town is being run into the ground. The leadership of Rockford, that you obviously voted for,is the reason that major, national, and reputable news sources repeatly rank us as poverty stricken, fiscally incompetent (housing and stimulus), and miserable. So keep thinking that continuing to vote for Republicans is making this town better as it continues to make it worse. By the way, the Police chief you loathe was put in charge by _________.
Wrong, liberal. It’s years of incompetent leadership brought on by people like former mayors Box and McNamara. Them combined with the corrupt teacher’s unions caused our property taxes to go sky high and become amongst the highest in the country. Now we can’t attract jobs because teachers can’t teach, and refuse to be held accountable, which in turn increases drop out rates and increases crime. Increased crime and property taxes drives away business and jobs.
Morrisey has been fighting against the union thugs the best he can, but it’s hard to do inside of a Socialist stronghold like Illinois.
The Democrats have run this town for thirty years. Check your mayoral history. True Republicans, not like most of the RINOs in DC, believe in creating strong business based economies. Once the machine tool business was done here, in came the Democrats who did not rebuild and replace this with something else. The state’s policies are so unfavorable now, this won’t happen despite all good efforts.
You start losing credibility when you toss around terms like “socialism” and “communism” as placeholders for things you don’t like, regardless of whether the matter in question is related to a socialistic or communistic school of thought whatsoever.

I cant wait to get out of this city. It is obvious why we make the top 10 for worst cities to live in. Rockford Scanner not only let people know what was going on around here it kept people safe. We did not hear half of the things from our city officials through any other media yet Rockford Scanner was there for us, now it has been taken away as well. Another loss for a city that has already lost too much.

Its refreshing and nice to know someone in that pathetic town ran by pathetic politicians and police cares and keeps up with current events including and above all crime. I am not happy about this as I’m sure a vast majority of people don’t have scanners and come on Facebook too see what is happening in there area, as I would check regularly too see what was going on and thanks too them I was informed but now that a tyrant wants too “censor” them for information that is public

This is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks to Rockford scanner we were able to alert a family friend who was on vacation in Florida about his house being on fire and then further relate to the fire department that the son they thought was inside was safe at a friends. I don’t understand what is wrong with someone posting what they hear on the scanner. For f*** sake its already out on the scanner.
